In my short time here, I have witnessed a tremendous energy dedicated to improving opportunities for kids. For example, 50 staff members spent four days in mid-July sharpening their skills through participation in our Summer Academy. Thanks to the efforts of Robles Responds, our district has partnered with Pima County on a soccer complex adjacent to Robles Elementary that is nearing completion. The technology department is busy installing SMART boards in eight additional classrooms, and our maintenance staff is completing the finishing touches in preparation for the start of school on August 5, 2010. Our charge is straight-forward: to provide all of our students with diverse and relevant educational opportunities that prepare them for the future. As we know, the world awaiting our children is a significantly different one than the world for which we were prepared. We live in a global marketplace with fierce competition for jobs and resources that extends well beyond the borders of our community. Rapidly evolving technology has dramatically altered the skills employers seek. Over the next decade for example, the demand for scientists and engineers is expected to grow at a rate four times faster than all other professions (STEM Education Coalition, 2009). I look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely,
